Fitness Center Outreach
Recognizing we are part of a vast team that is invested in your well being, it is important to us that we create relationships with all health care providers that contribute to your success. We have consulted with area trainers on an individual patient basis as well as provided in-services to the training staff at local gyms to increase awareness about ways patients may present to the training team and when to include therapy intervention. We have consulted with the training staff at the YMCA in Sammamish, Gold’s Gym, 24 Hour Fitness and Collaborative Fitness here in Issaquah, creating an open door of communication among the members of your health care team.
Julie and Reid have also become certified as Sports Performance Coaches with the USA Weightlifting Association in order to better understand the components of Olympic lifting styles that are so prevalent in the CrossFit industry. We realize that to match the needs of our patients, we need to be able to identify incorrect movement patterns during these maneuvers in order to affect change in the system that is appropriately aimed at these complex lifts.
Susan G Komen 3-Day Event
Reid has been the Captain of the Sports Medicine team for the Seattle 3-Day Walk sponsored by the Susan G Komen Foundation since 2015. Julie and Katie also participate as crewmembers for the event. Together, they have helped hundreds of participants through injuries and repetitive strain limitations so they can stay on course and finish the physically and emotionally challenging sixty-mile event. They volunteer their time and skill set to the three-day effort, providing assessments, taping, manual therapy, stretching, and participant education to walkers that need physical help during their journey. They not only give up a day in the clinic, but also spend their weekend en route, at early morning and late evening camps, providing care to injured walkers. They continue to return each year, inspired by the gratitude and satisfaction of the participants who might not be able to finish the event and reach their goals without their services.
