Community Outreach

Community Outreach

Part of our integrated model of care at PHENIX Physical Therapy & Personal Wellness includes involvement in the community in which we serve. We believe that to thrive as members of our community, we must invest our time and resources to build bridges, strengthen bonds and give back to our neighbors. We are proud of the ways we support the needs of our community and are always looking for more ways to spread the talents of PHENIX to causes that matter to those that matter to us.

We value the opportunity to support the Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank through sponsorship of their annual Turkey Trot as well as through food drives to help offset lunch needs during school breaks.

We are part of the committee responsible for showcasing the City of Issaquah’s sports medicine talent through the city’s Sports Medicine Innovation Partnership Zone. Our staff will be representing PHENIX at the first annual Issaquah Sports Medicine Combine, where sports medicine professionals will host courses, activities and training events.

Education

We at PHENIX believe that making changes at the foundation of a system causes the largest effect and improvement in the system’s function. We implement that strategy in the clinic by including core strengthening in almost every patient’s treatment plan, making sure the body is well rooted in the trunk to allow function of the limbs. That same belief is also true of making an impact in our community when we can create strength at the foundation by addressing the needs and services provided to youth. We are proud to be a business partner of the Issaquah Schools Foundation, participant of the Issaquah School District’s Pathway Advisory Committee as well as a multi-year sponsor of the Eastside Catholic High School Gala Auction fundraiser.

Youth Mentorship

Acting as a mentor to the youth helps to bridge the gap between education and the professional industry in the community. We participate in work-based learning activities, including job shadowing, internships, and guest speaker roles in order to offer more insight into the daily operations of the clinic. Working together with the students and high school career specialists allows us to help solidify student direction regarding career choices in therapy professions.

Issaquah School District Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee

Reid has been a part of the Health Science Pathway Advisory Committee with the Issaquah School District since 2017 and now serves as the Committee Chair. The committee serves to build bridges between industry professionals and educators who serve the students of the district by offering innovative strategies to align coursework with current career demands. He meets with city leaders, sports medicine educators and student liaisons to help direct curriculum choices, strengthen community involvement in education, and to offer a professional voice in creating strong academic programs for the students interested in the field of health sciences.

Fitness Center Outreach

Recognizing we are part of a vast team that is invested in your well being, it is important to us that we create relationships with all health care providers that contribute to your success. We have consulted with area trainers on an individual patient basis as well as provided in-services to the training staff at local gyms to increase awareness about ways patients may present to the training team and when to include therapy intervention. We have consulted with the training staff at the YMCA in Sammamish, Gold’s Gym, 24 Hour Fitness and Collaborative Fitness here in Issaquah, creating an open door of communication among the members of your health care team.

Julie and Reid have also become certified as Sports Performance Coaches with the USA Weightlifting Association in order to better understand the components of Olympic lifting styles that are so prevalent in the CrossFit industry. We realize that to match the needs of our patients, we need to be able to identify incorrect movement patterns during these maneuvers in order to affect change in the system that is appropriately aimed at these complex lifts.

Susan G Komen 3-Day Event

Reid has been the Captain of the Sports Medicine team for the Seattle 3-Day Walk sponsored by the Susan G Komen Foundation since 2015. Julie and Katie also participate as crewmembers for the event. Together, they have helped hundreds of participants through injuries and repetitive strain limitations so they can stay on course and finish the physically and emotionally challenging sixty-mile event. They volunteer their time and skill set to the three-day effort, providing assessments, taping, manual therapy, stretching, and participant education to walkers that need physical help during their journey. They not only give up a day in the clinic, but also spend their weekend en route, at early morning and late evening camps, providing care to injured walkers. They continue to return each year, inspired by the gratitude and satisfaction of the participants who might not be able to finish the event and reach their goals without their services.
